Title Tips & Techniques

Today's tip/technique is simple, but something that adds a special touch to your projects!

I like to make my titles stand out... and I seem to not be able to leave the letters alone.

Here are a few ways I embellish my titles:

-Color your chipboard letters with colored pencils & glitter.

-Sand the edges of chipboard:

-Layer the chipboard letters on top of each other (and heck, add a few distress Stickles!):

-Glue on a few rhinestones:

-Draw some simple lines...
-Or add dots and trace around the letters!
What ways do you like to alter your titles?

DT news and a bunch of LO's

Happy Sunday all! I hope you are all having a good weekend. I have some fun news to share. This month we will be having 2 guest designers joining us! Christine Middlecamp and Gretchen McElveen! WOW...we are so fortunate to be able to see some kit creations from these talented ladies, and I am so looking forward to what they have coming up for the month!
Christine will be working with the Penny Arcade (3 of those left), and Gretchen will be working with Rise and Shine (sold out). So be sure to check in daily for some fabulous inspiration on how yo use your kits! :)

Now....here are a few LO's I have been working on over the last week or so:
This first one I did with the March kit, "Nightingale". This kit got kind of overlooked, and I still have several available in the store. Go give it a look, as it is on sale! It is full of fun red/blue/brown papers (I love that color combo!), and lots of other good stuff! I did add the letters from the Rise and Shine kit to this, as well as the JB chip buttons.

I struggled with this one...it took me a good 3 days to finish it, but I am really happy with the result. This is done entirely with the Penny Arcade Kit (3 left!!). I copied Virginia's work on the Collage Press letters, I thought those were so clever! Also, I did mount this on the TH Grungboard sheet. A note about that. Use a VERY heavy duty adhesive, or sew your papers to this, as regular tape runner does not secure your papers and they will definitely fall off.

These 2 were done with the Rise and Shine kit. This first one is my entry for Jana's sketch challenge, which is now running over on the challenge blog!

Hope you all have a great Sunday! :)

This week we have been hosting Jana's Sketch CHallenge here.

This is was my take on it and here is a close up of the dots i did with the liquid pearls. Everything you see on this layout comes in the kit. Even 2 sets of alpha's but i chose no title for this particular layout.

Playing with Rise & Shine!

I hope you were lucky enough to score a Rise & Shine kit because I am having so much fun playing with this happy kit!

Here are the projects I've created with it in just the last few days.

This one is for the current challenge running on the Noel Mignon Challenge blog featuring a sketch I created. The background cardstock and letter stickers are from my stash.

This was a quick & easy project I created for the Noel Mignon Tip & Technique Blog.

And this is one that I created for the latest Mixer at the Mix It Up challenge blog!

Thanks so much for looking!

Quick & Easy Gifts with Templates

Sometimes you need something quick and easy to say THANK YOU to a friend, neighbor or colleague . . . but you still want it to be cute!

Here's an idea for you.

First, start with few Kit Kat bars (I used the JUMBO bars, but I think the regular ones would fit in much better).

Next, find a FRY BOX TEMPLATE online and print it. You can copy and paste it into a word processing program to size it if you need to.

Now, use the template to cut the shape from a piece of cardstock. Decorate as desired. I added some patterned paper to the inside of mine and then made a simple band of patterned paper with a label for the outside (papers from the Rise & Shine kit). "Thanks" is spelled out with Jenni Bowlin rubons.

Fill with broken Kit Kat candy to look like "french fries."

Place in a cellophane bag and tie with a cute bow! Done!!!
Hint: if your cellophane bag is too tall, just cut it shorter with a pair of pinking scissors. CUTE!

This would be fun for a teacher, friend, neighbor . . . or how about using this idea for Dad or Grampa for Father's Day.

For more fun templates check out the links below:
(if you know of any others, please tell us about them in our comment box and I will add them up here.)

BONUS TIP:

If you are like me and love to use buttons, you are constantly changing your thread color to match the layout you are working on.

Instead of rethreading your needle everytime, buy an entire package of embroidery needles (they have a larger eye and are easier to thread) and keep a length of each of your favorite colors on its own needle. Black on one, brown on another, white on the next, etc.

I keep mine in my tool drawer and they are ready to go whenever I need them.

A Couple of Cards!

I love the fun happy papers in the new Rise & Shine kit! I decided to create a bookmark card using my Provocraft Cricut's Animal Kingdom cartridge. I cut the lion out several times and popped him up on pop dots for dimension. I used a transparency and my sewing machine to create a pocket for the bookmark to sit in. Wouldn't this be great to give a child for his/her birthday? Or good report card at the end of the school year?
This next card also uses the Rise & Shine kit. I love the postage stamps that come in this kit!

The doily is from the Penny Arcade kit. I did a bit of sewing and distressing to create this card.

Wishing you a very happy Tuesday! : )

Rise and Shine

I saw a mini book that Katie Watson did and was inspired to make a wall hanging for Mason's teacher.

This layout is the awesome burgers my uncle has at his restaurant in New Orleans. I have been wanting to scrap this pic for a while but never felt it until now.
This was using one of the IB sketches from the bonanza. I am way behind on my sketches so i figure i need to catch them up.

Thanks for looking.

Little Lady and a card

A day late though... sorry! :(
I had my mom dig through some old photos of me and when she sent these portraits over from when I was little I knew I had to scrap them, I just love these pics! Heritage isn't my strong point for sure but I love how easy this kit made it to scrap these old photos!! Thanks Noel!

Check out the beautiful "Penny Arcade" kit and grab one for yourself!!

Discover Your Scrap Style Class

Have you ever wondered why it is that some scrapbookers' layouts are identifiable a mile away?

Do you have trouble deciding what purchases to make or what supplies you want to pull out because you're overwhelmed by it all- or just love it all?

Have you ever thought, "I wish I could figure out what my scrapbooking style is?"

Then this class is for you!

Join me, from the comfort of your own home & at your own pace, at noelmignon.com for an online workshop style class; June 1-3, cost $8.

The nitty gritty:

I don't claim to know everything about style and design, but I do know that I have grown from doing scrapbook pages like this:

to ones like this one, that better reflect my personal style and design sensibilities:

(We'll even discover how those early projects had clues to our personal style!)

This is going to be an interactive/discussion style class- not focusing on projects; however, I will be teaching you how to make a Design Workbook and producing a layout that features "your style." I'll also be including lots of visuals and printables (hey we're scrapbookers- we are visual creatures!). We'll be discussing what factors can go into helping you discover your scrapping style, key things to look at in that process, and some practical steps for pinpointing those elements.

What you get:
-my research and discussion on style elements
-my workshop guiding you through at least 3 different hands-on activities that help you define your style
-a completed Design Workbook - made with materials you already have on hand (with printables you can include within)
-a layout that represents your style (using supplies you already have on hand)
-a discount during the time of the class to the Noelmignon.com store

Please feel free to email me at 2blackflipflops at gmail dot com if you have any questions concerning this class; once you sign up, I will send you a "supply list" (don't worry, it's all basic stuff that you will already have available).

Looking forward to chatting with you all in June!
