Trick or treat!

The Something Wicked kit has been making this month so much fun for me! I love pulling out all the contents and inevitably thinking back to Halloween memories.... that of my own kids' and of my own. 

I wanted to capture the essence of trick or treating in this layout. I used a blurry picture from last year that shows the magical, fuzzy-around-the-edges, mystery of the night, and then the classic standing on the porch, waiting for some ghoul to come to the door with a bowl full of treats shot. 

I did a ton of fussy cutting on this layout.... from the pennant banner cut out of patterned paper, to the delightful little scene of trick or treaters, to the ominous clouds and stars. 

It makes a great use of those great elements from papers and lets them stand on their own as embellishments. 

I added some of the distress stickles on the roof of the house. I love the subtle texture it adds.

Kimberly here as Guest Designer for October's kit, to share with you all what I have done this week. It's a great honor to be here this month. Noel Mignon's kits have always been a favorite of mine, and I was completely elated to be asked to design with her kits this month. Thank you!

This kit is so FULL of incredible products and embellishments, I LOVE it all! :) I love all the rich colors in this kit. Perfect for Fall photographs, which are my personal favorites.

I created this layout based on a sketch from Got Sketch Express 2 class.

Here are a couple of close up's of the inked edges I did to enhance the richness through out this layout.

We Did It!

I love the versatility of the "Something Wicked" kit as it's also perfect fall layouts, not just Halloween ones. I created this layout of the girls and me going through a mini hay maze early last week at the apple orchard. They were so cute following me through the maze and then we raised our arms in victory at the end. The black in the kit helps the rich orange and teal colors pop off the page.

 

I created a banner by mixing Lily Bee banner stickers and patterned paper pieces I cut myself. Then I added twine and brads to finish it off.

 

I layered the American Crafts chalkboard sticker (after outlining it with a white gel pen), the dimensional cloud sticker and then the "Fabulous Fall" sticker by Lily Bee.

With a Little Twine

Halloween is coming and my girls could not be more excited. One thing I do every year is to have the girls dress up in their costumes and let them act out their characters. It makes for some really cute pictures. My youngest was a bit confused last year but this year I think she will have fun with it.

I used the awesome "Something Wicked" kit for my layout. There still are a few left so make sure you grab one before they are gone! A fun way to use the twine in your kit is to use it to create a border on your page. I places a little glue outside my blue paper and then carefully placed my twine around the paper. I love this quick technique and it adds just a touch of texture to your layout as well.

Halloween is coooooooming!!

Are you ready for it? I loooooove October and Halloween and the first beginnings of Fall, and the apple cider and the smells of spices and all things baking in my oven. YUM!

I have been doing lots of playing with my Something Wicked kit (hurry hurry to get yours - only 9 left!!) and I am seriously loving it! There's more than just Halloween in there, folks - Noel mixed in some great pieces that will work great for general fall layouts and the bits and pieces baggie is to die for!

I went to Sonic a couple of weeks ago to get some Route 44 Cherry Limeade's for the boys and got a drink carrier to hold everything in, and the second I saw it empty, I KNEW I had to make something with it! It was just calling my name!

So I did. And I love it!

And it was easy! I just measured and traced each side and cut pieces of the Pink Paislee House of Three papers to fit. I distress inked the edges of all the pieces with Pumice Stone Distress Ink by Ranger and glued them down. Then I  made the little banner piece using some of the burlap trim from My Mind's Eye that Noel put in the Study Hall kit and made  the title piece using a sticker from the Glitz stickers in the Something Wicked kit. It is at this point that I fell in love with my glue gun all over again!

Once I finished with the outside of the carrier, I added four big Ball jars with just the outside part of the lid screwed on. These happen to be pretty old, so they have this awesome distressed look to them. I wrapped the outside of the lid with some black masking tape (thank you, Mom!) and then tied some natural twine around to hold the tag and mini buttons in place.

I was going to finish there and fill all the jars with candy, BUT THEN I remembered I had all these awesome plastic wands from SRM and I thought that they would be waaaaay more perfect to fill with candy and then put them in the jars. This instantly became my favorite party favor EVER. I used a little more black masking tape, jute and buttons to jazz them up, and then added a couple of tags from the We R Memory Keepers chipboard stickers in the kit. The secret there is to coat the backs with baby powder to "destickify" them. The tops of the tubes also just happen to be the same size as the MME brads that are in the kit, so I snipped off the prongs on the brads and hot glued them to the top of the lids and Ohemgee!!!

So that's the Halloween Treat Carrier! I hope you can use this idea for your scary party or maybe to send with the kiddies to their class party, filled with enough tubes for each student in the classroom? So many different ways to use it, and this concept can be made to fit other holidays, too! Can't you just see candy canes in the jars at Christmas? LOOOVE!!

Not just for school stuff...

I will admit that I was not sure what I was going to make with the "Study Hall" kit before I got it.
I mean, I don't have any kids so it is not like I have a bunch of back-to-school pictures that I need to scrapbook.

But other than a few school-themed embellishments, everything in this kit is very versatile!
The school-themed embellishments are super fun, but there are plenty of embellishments that are not specifically themed.

There are some school-themed patterned papers too, but the B-sides of those papers are very neutral!
And perfect for my not-so-schoolish layouts!

I've actually decided that the "Study Hall" kit could just as well be a "boy" kit.
There is a bunch of great masculine stuff in it!

I've also decided that those new Thickers are my new favorite alpha!

It's a good thing I ordered an extra pack!
