New challenge!

I made this card last week that unintentionally works for this challenge.

And then I made this new one.

I made both of these cards using the Salt Water Taffy kit.

{first day}

This year I have an abundance of school pictures to scrap, what with a first grader, a kindergartner, and two Mom's Day Out attendees... not to mention I started teaching my own class at MDO! I wanted to start tackling those pics right away with the awesome Study Hall kit. 

My design for this page is super simple- I loved Diana's "Summer Fun 2011" layout for the Summer Review challenge, so I did my own spin on it. Instead of doing a row of banners/pennants along the bottom, I just created each rectangle to have a notch along the bottom. It's a little more subtle, but it still adds a unique punch to the page. 

To make sure that the little dude didn't get lost in the picture, I just quickly doodled around him in the shot with a white gel pen. I loved that this pic gave my perspective of him as I walked out on his first day. 

I  may be addicted to the new Amy Tan for American Crafts thickers. Oh my cute. I went ahead and grabbed a few more sets from the shop, and I loved the contrast these Kale ones gave to my page. 

 For a fun little embellishment, I cut out a pencil from the October Afternoon patterned paper and popped it up with some foam adhesive.

Little Ladies Cross at the Ankles

I love scrapping about my girls' little quirks....just little things I want to remember about them at their age. When Nora is sitting on the couch or a chair, she almost always crosses her feet at the ankle. It's so funny and something sweet about her that I'm glad we were able to capture. I used the very feminine and lady-like "Mary Ellen" kit for this layout to create a hodge podge of little bits and pieces. 

For this grid, I punched some starbursts from patterned paper, layered Crate Paper stickers and brads, and added a little punched butterfly with a pearl center.

I'm still in love with Sassafras Lass "foldies" and used a few flowers as an accent. I also layered an October Afternoon label sticker, a My Mind's Eye sentiment sticker and Maya Road star pin. 

The alphabet stickers are all from past kits: Sassafras Lass woodgrain from The Bee's Knees, Sassafras turquoise glitter from Very Virginia, American Crafts thickers from Jump & Jive.

School Bell Time!

For many places, school is back in session or will be soon. So I thought I'd gather a couple of inspiration ideas to jump start your mojo.

When I think of school, I think of chalkboards and apples. How cute would something like this be on a layout? The color scheme would be super cute as well.

Another cute idea would be to add subway text to your layout. You could use up your letter stash or you could create it on the computer and print it out. This would be a great way to document your child's favorite things about school!

Flip Card

Well, I don't know about you, but I had a great three-day weekend! We went to a wedding on Saturday, to the Alameda Antique Fair on Sunday, and P.F. Chang's in Walnut Creek last night for dinner. YUM! We had a busy weekend, but I still found some time to make a quick little birthday card to show you today.

I made this for my sister-in-law's birthday. It is on a 6x6 base, rather than being a standard folding card.  I used a couple of bits and pieces from the Study Hall kit, along with a bunch of scraps from my own stash.

I sewed the top flap to the base so that it would make a little flip-up front to hide this tag (which eventually got a Starbucks card stuck to it) and then I tied a 2' piece of twine to the tag and wrapped it around the whole card to secure everything together.

Here's a little closeup of the front. How much do I loooove those Jenni Bowlin banner stickers? Um, a LOT. And the twine is by Creative Impressions - I get asked that a lot, and I really love theirs!

So that's all for today. I hope you all had a great weekend and got to catch up on some much-needed good times! Now I'm off to take a nap - I'm BEAT!!

I did grab the Thickers out of the Very Virginia kit and the October Afternoon 5 & Dime label from the Mary Ellen kit though.

My parents are taking a big trip at the end of the month so I plan on sending them this card when they get back!

 I'm so glad Noel started the challenge blog back up just in time for me to create a quick layout about our summer adventures! I tried to decide if I wanted to do a collage of photos from our summer, but decided upon this great pic of my littlest's ruffled bum of her swimsuit to represent "summertime."

If you're a Phineas and Ferb fan, then you'll recognize the beginning lyrics to the theme song as the title of my layout. I love using quote or lyrics for song titles because I'm NOT good at coming up with titles on my own! 

The little kraft pocket is stuffed with a couple of Pink Paislee Soiree Mini Notes (on sale for $4.79!) and has some of our summer activities listed on them.
