using up scraps

When I was thinking of what layout I wanted to work on this week I had my Sweet & Simple Classic kit sitting out on my table along with all the scraps from my layout last week. 

Now, I don't keep every single bit of paper. What usually happens is I will keep the scraps around while I'm still working with a current kit to see if I want to use them in a layout, card, Project Life, etc. By the way, cards are a great way to use up scraps! I also have a spot where I put extra papers for my kids' stash and they know that whatever is in there is theirs to use whenever they want.

Back to the scraps...I had this photo of my daughter that I printed up last week. And when I took a look at the scraps on my table I knew I could create a simple layout by layering some of them on my page.

All I did was create a frame with that burlap paper (hello burlap!!) and then layer some of the scraps around and underneath my photo.

A quick little background on the photo - my 3 yr old is very much into the "I can do it myself" phase. So in this photo she had put the headband in her hair & came to me all excited saying "mommy, I so booihfoe!!!" (beautiful) Ah yes, kool-aid mouth and all :)

I added some of that gold striped washi & brads along with some yellow thickers from another NM kit (I love the gold thickers from the Sweet & Simple kit but they just didn't show against the burlap paper). I have a tendency to switch around the thickers from different kits :)

 

By using up some of the scraps I had laying around I was able to create this layout pretty quickly!

Baby Reed's Album Continued...

So here's my desk today. Still working on Reed's spreads for month five.

I used more of both of the Sweet & Simple kits to fill up this pocket page, and then added in a journaling page from Becky Higgins - I love having tons of stories for Reed to go through later.

I kept it pretty simple - just added some stickers and cut out the stitched heart. Ran it through my sewing machine, and of course, added some enamel dots. Because that's mandatory, folks.

I had these two little Instagram shots that I wanted to include. The one on top is okay, but the one underneath is one of my less flattering photos. I just loved the honesty in it though - and I think Reed will like it later. So, I just slid that one into the sleeve, and fastened the good image on top of the sleeve, with a little strip of that adorable gold striped washi in the big kit.

 This card is simple enough - just a little sticker and washi, stitched on with some enamel dots. The gold foil "#lovethis!" is a Heidi Swapp stamp from the daily diary kit (sold out) that I made into a cut file, then stamped straight onto with Black StazOn ink. Seriously in love with the gold foil. For a little tutorial on how to make this cut file, just head over to my blog tomorrow to check it out!

Hello friends! Today I have a new layout to share with you using the Sweet & Simple classic kit!!

This layout actually started out using a different background, I had it completed, didn't love it, so I added some misting, hoping that would help, and it still just wasn't quite what I had pictured. So, since I had used permanent adhesive, I simply cut my photo and all the layers leaving a small mat of the original background paper..adhered it to this AWESOME green striped paper, and it was perfect!!

Then I wanted to bring in just a little more of that navy polka dot paper. By layering some strips along the side, I was able to make a visual triangle with that paper, and bring a little more interest into the layout, since I couldn't layer more into my photo area, without possible tearing my photo.

The embellishing on this layout was kept to a bare minimum, I really wanted to layers and the photo to take center stage. I couldn't, however, resist adding in one of these adorable little tree clips...and it worked perfect with my photo!

This layout turned out even better than my original vision, don't be afraid to trust your instinct with your creations! If you are going to put the time into a project, it needs to be something you love!! :)

playing with stickers

It's Becky Williams with you here again and today I am going to share a layout that shows off the cute stickers in our July Sweet & Simple kit. 

I like the look of layouts with strips of paper as the background behind the photographs and so I decided to create the same effect with the October Afternoon stickers in the kit. 

I layered a couple of the patterned papers (burlap and aqua polka dot) for my base and then grabbed the sheet of border stickers and layered them this way and that varying the lengths each time. I think that it gives a fun, playful look to my page. 

From there I added a small block of striped paper from one of the Simple Stories patterned papers, layered my photos and a chipboard frame.

Here I used lots more stickers! I mixed in some cute buttons and a Chic Tags balloon rub-on. The metal heart is from one of the metal embellishments, I just twisted until I got just the heart part that I wanted. I used foam adhesive on some of the stickers to help them stand out a bit.

Daily Diary Week 23

Hi Everyone! Lisa here and I am so excited to be sharing my first designs for Noel Mignon! I absolutely fell in love with the Sweet and Simple Daily Diary Kit this month!  The colors are so gorgeous and the kit was packed full of lovely things, as always! That is something I adore about these kits, they never need an add on because everything is already in the kits for you!

Before I share my first pocket scrapbooking layout this month with you, I want to share a video I created sharing the kit in a little more detail. I was bouncing a newborn as I was sharing, but I think you still see the fullness of the kit. Plus, juggling a newborn is just part of my daily life anyway, as is the kids playing outside in the sprinkler that you might hear from time to time.

 

So now how about a layout? This is week 23 and I adore how the kit just made it shine. I was able to add layers that really completed my pictures and the stories I was trying to tell. The cards, patterns, embellishments and stickers just enhanced my photos and that makes my heart so happy!  I did leave the personal journaling off for now, but at the end of the month I will be sharing a round up video and so you will have a peek at my stories then.

The clear overlay is perfect for this off center photo. These overlays are great for filling in white space with a bit more design and detail.

I used my corner chomper and tiny attacher to pull the layout together.

The stitched embellishment and frame really pulls out important part of this photo for me.

The tone on tone with the mustard and yellows was a simple way to add a little more of the story. I also included a card where I can share my favorite moments from the week.

I loved using one of the 3x4 cards as a background for this instax picture, adding on a sticker, enamel dot and flair badge for a sweet finishing touch.

Here I layered one 3x4 card onto one of the sheets of patterned paper, cut to 4x6, with two pictures, stickers, a wood piece and an enamel dot. ALL from the kit!

These pages used so little of the kit that I know I will be creating so many more keepsakes with these lovely supplies! I hope you were able to grab one before they sold out! They go so fast!

Over the 4th of July weekend we hung out at the house, bbq'd, built a fire for s'mores, and basically just hung out together. I got my little one a pool to play in (hello, it's been in the 90s the last week!) and she had a ton of fun splashing around in it. 

But what was even more fun was squirting her big brother with his water gun :)

I created this layout with the Sweet & Simple classic kit. 

I had to laugh when I saw Amanda's post earlier this week because I knew I was also playing around with cutting up those great shapes!

I also used some of the great Mister Huey's mister spray on the background of my paper because I knew it would tie in to the color of the grass in my photo. I also played around with a couple of the stamps that came in the kit.

And then I just added some layering under the photo with strips of various papers along with that sun card & kraft envelope and that adorable heart clip!

Doilies and Stripes

Hi friends! Last week we celebrated the stars and stripes for the 4th of July, so this week I thought I'd celebrate the doilies and stripes that come in the newest kit, Sweet & Simple. To do that, I chose create 2 cards, each with similar construction, to show off some hand-cut shapes and great striped patterns.

Here are the 2 cards together. I love the way they compliment each other with their color scheme but aren't the exact same replica of each other.

 

When I was creating these, I had my girls in mind as recipients because they're headed to camp this week. I hope to send these in just a few days so that they'll receive them while they're actually AT camp (mail there is sloooowww). But mailing the cards also meant that I had to keep the bulk to a minimum and do more layering of papers and stickers. It was hard to do. Not as much my style, but a good challenge for me. I DID squeak a couple of buttons on each, but I think they'll pass the USPS test.


Well that's all for me! I've gotta get them packed up and ready to leave. Tomorrow's the big day!
