Halloween Goodies
Hello everyone! This year I am hosting a halloween party for a few friends of mine. I wanted to do a little something to spice up the finger foods I will be serving. The first thing that came to was to create cute little tags to name each food item in a fun Halloween way. I created these little "batwing cake" tags for my chocolate cake. I plan on making several others for all my other finger foods. They are very easy to make. All you need are 3 circle punches of varying size, 3 different sheets of paper, and a toothpick.
Happy Haunting Everyone!

When in doubt, go with a grid...
I've been trying to scrap all of our Halloween/fall events as they happen, so I can be right on top of it! Plus, for some reason, once October 31st is over, I don't really feel like pulling out all my orange and black stuff. I love scrapbooking with products that I'm in the mood to play with!
My favorite "go-to" design is a grid. I love it because it gives me an easy framework to add all the fun stuff that I like to do! The details are my favorite part.
I had lots of cute photos from our Fall Festival the other night, and the Sleepy Hollow kit was great to whip out a layout to feature them. I also added in a strip of plaid paper from the Sweet Sue kit; I like how it cooled down the bright colors of the layout. To add the fun sparkly trim on the top, I just did a quick stitch with the green embroidery thread from the kit. I love the way it looks like candy and it adds a fun dimension to the project!

Spooky Spider Cards & More with Sleepy Hollow!
Today, I have some Halloween cards to share with you that I made with the Sleepy Hollow kit. I had to make about 15 cards to send to family so I kept the design fairly simple and even got my girls involved in the process! I would have made more of the spider cards but I could only keep the girls' attention for so long. I'm sure making cards like this would work even better for older children. Here's a look at the cards...
For this design, I punched out circles from The Girls' Paperie paper and then adhered one of the crepe paper sentiments in the center. I did some inking and machine stitching and that was all! Very quick and easy but it looks like it took me forever to make those crepe paper flowers! :)
For the spider cards, I used StazOn ink in Jet Black and made fingerprints with my girls on white cardstock (not textured). I took a thin journaling pen and drew the legs on. I adhered the squares with foam adhesive onto my card. The sentiment was stamped with the Toil & Trouble stamps from The Girls' Paperie.
Here's two more of the cards in similar designs...
And then I included a photo of the girls in their Halloween costumes this year! I love that I was able to capture their fingerprints and might just make this an annual project! :)
Have a Happy Halloween and don't forget to stop by and pick up the "Dear Diary" kit before it's sold out! :)
Until next time,
Jill

"Shades of the Same" ATC project
Hi Everyone!! Well I had really wanted to share my Halloween decorations with you today-but I am still not done with them! :P I have several of the projects started, but they are just taking time to finish. Time that has been hard to come by lately. So, sadly they will have to wait to be shown here on the blog until after Halloween (as I post every Wednesday). But I will be sure to have them up in the Message Board as soon as they are done and photographed. :D
So for today, I am instead going to show you the project I did for the Shades of the Same challenge! It took me a little while to figure out what color I wanted to go with (and trust me-that was a really hard decision!!), but a creamy white was the one I kept coming back to, so I decided to stick with it. And I am really happy I did! I really want to do more projects like this! (But I am thinking I will need to buy more Printer's Trays! LOL!) Anyway, all the elements I chose are on the spectrum of a creamy white (with a few stark whites in there too. I couldn't help myself!). The only things with any color are the 'pictures' I decided to use on my ATCs. These are actually vintage images that I printed out (I can locate them if you would like to have them too). This is the project in full. It is missing three ATCs, because I just kinda ran out of mojo working with the same color (this was a fun challenge, but a challenge no doubt!), so I still have all my supplies out waiting for the inspiration to make the last three.
These are close up images of all the ATCs. If you have any questions about them, please don't hesitate to ask as I would love to answer any! :D
I used a very wide mix of things from my stash. a lot of it is scrapbooking supplies that you can clearly recognize, but a good bit of it also came from just things I had here at home. Fabric swatches, my daughter's glitter glue, extra string/button packs that come with your sweaters when you buy them, tulle and lots of vintage paper that I literally just tore out of books on my shelves. :D I had a grand ol' time searching my house for lots of things that were the color I needed!
The great thing about ATCs is that you can easily turn them into a banner!!! I am really thinking that is what I am going to do with these, as I only have two Printer's trays, and I really want to be able to rotate new ATCs in them. Attaching all of these by the back to a ribbon and stringing them up on a wall I think would be so fun and easy! I will probably put this one in Cree's room (I am working on figuring her room out decoration-wise), but most certainly in a place where she can't get to it. :D I want to share this project with her, just not in tons of little pieces all over the floor!! LOL!
Well that about sums this project up. Be sure to check out the challenge, and all the amazing projects the other girls on the DT came up with-as they are all super stunning!!!
And also be sure to pick up your Dear Diary November kit before it sells out! :D It is featuring manufacturers like Lily Bee, Crate Paper (Restoration collection!), October Afternoon, Sassafras Lass, Maya Road, We Are Memory Keepers and much more! It is so gorgeous, and I am anxiously awaiting mine! Noel really out-did herself with this one, so make sure you don't miss it!
Take care everyone!! And have a safe and fun Halloween! :D Tuesday, October 26, 2010
a few Halloween projects
Hey there! I thought I'd share the projects I did for the challenge this week and a post I did over on the Tips & Techniques blog. First the layout. For the challenge this week we had to create a layout using shades of the same color. But only one color. Eeek!! I will admit I was a bit intimidated by this one. But once I started playing around I found that my layout came together pretty easily!
I used the fabulous Sleepy Hollow kit for this layout of my kids in the pumpkin patch this year. Thankfully I had some pictures that had colors other than orange so that in itself added that extra splash of color. I used an oval punch to create the little pumpkins at the bottom.
Leaving a white border around my photos also helped them to stand out against all of the orange on my page. You can check out the challenge here along with the other DT members' creations. Be sure to share your layouts with us!!
I also created these fun little treat bags over at the Tips & Techniques blog. You can check out the instructions here!

True Blue
Happy Monday everybody! Man, what a great weekend - it's the first truly rainy, overcasty, get-nothing-much-accomplished, cuddle-on-the-couch-and-watch-movies, with a hot cup of apple cider kind of weekend we've had so far here, and I have to say it was PERFECT!
Today over at the challenge blog we're starting this new, "Shades of the Same" challenge. You can use whatever you want, but it has to be based on ONE color. I chose blue, since I had so much to work with from the Office Party and Sweet Sue kits.
I decided not to use a photo, but instead grabbed this invitation for a friend's house-warming party, which just happened to have the perfect color blue outline. Totally coincidental... No planning there.... Nope...
I don't usually do the whole "hidden journaling" thing, but I had a hand-written note from my friend that I just had to have with it, so I made a little pocket and attached some blue tulle to it.
I cut the lace tape from Basic Grey in half and ran it lengthwise across the page. This creates the illusion of another layer in there and helps to anchor the center strip to the page.
Alright, now go take a look at what the other girls came up with and don't forget to post your layout in the gallery! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
xoxo

Playing Wii
Good morning and happy Sunday to you! Noel's challenge this week for us gals was to create a monochromatic LO. I am hoping I didn't "cheat" too badly by using a tiny bit of white! : ) I used the blue papers from the Sun-kissed kit to scrap my daughter playing the Wii. Her jammies were blue and I decided to match the papers! The title and Wii controller were cut using my Cricut machine. The flowers were cut directly from the patterned paper and placed on pop dots.
I used Smooch on the letters to give it some sparkle and shine!

I added Smooch to the controller as well!
I think I am a day early on the challenge......so consider it a little sneak peek and maybe you can get a head start on creating your monochromatic LO! ; )
Don't forget to pre-order Noel's newest kit, Dear Diary! : )
Have a wonderful Sunday!

A Weekend Challenge
Happy Saturday everyone! Today I decided to challenge myself to create a 2 page layout. It's been months since I have created one. Since I am challenging myself, I would like to challenge my fellow readers to do the same. How long has it been since you have created a 2 page layout? I created a sketch to help you get started. I will be back later to show you what I created with this sketch.
*update* Here is my take on the 2 page sketch. I used a mixture of items from the Noel Mignon Sweet Sue and Sleepy Hallow kits.
Happy creating!
Diana
