It's Sketch Time!!!

Photobucket

Hello everyone!!!  It's the middle of the month and I am back with a new sketch & contest :)  FUN, FUN, FUN!!!  Here is the August sketch . . .

Photobucket

And here is what I came up with using August's West Coast kit.  Full of bright, cheery colors, the West Coast kit was perfect for this birthday shot . . .

There were so many GREAT stickers in this kit.  I layered up a bunch to create this fun title in the bottom left hand corner of my page . . .

For my journaling, I knew this cute Elle's Studio journaling tag from the kit would be perfect!!  I clustered the tag, along with some more fun stickers right under the photo . . .

Jewelry Time....Wait! What??

Happy Thursday again everyone!!
Hope y'all are having a fabulous week :)

I'm dropping in today to share how I love to use Noel's kits for more than just documenting my family's history in a fun, creative way.

I love to make jewelry with all the fun embellishments that come in the kit.

When I first received August's West Coast Kit one of the first things that popped out to me was the My Minds Eye Miss Caroline decorative brads.  I ooooh'd and ahhhh'd over all the lil designs and I couldn't wait to create something with them but knew that I wanted to use them for more than just a layout that I wouldn't see on a regular basis.

So I decided to make a bracelet with them.

The only thing you need are the brads, a bracelet blank (which you can pick up at any craft store or online), some E6000, and pliers (not pictured above).

The first thing I did after taking the brads out of the packaging was to remove the metal fastener part.

It's a lil blurry in this picture but all you need to do is hold the fastener part with the pliers and just wiggle it back and forth and they will pop right off.  there is no need to cut them at all.

After getting all the fasteners removed, I decided where I wanted each brad to go and laid that out so I had an idea before I glued them down.

Prior to adhering the brads with the E6000, I gave the blanks on the bracelet a lil sanding to make sure that the glue sticks really well.

After the blanks were sanded, I glued them all down and voila!!

A pretty lil bracelet that I can wear with absolutely anything!

I def plan to do more jewelry posts in the near future!

xo

Oh Happy Day!

My brand new nephew was born yesterday, so I did what any scrapbooking auntie would do and came right home to whip up a page of his sweet arrival into our family! ;)

Using the West Coast kit  (sorry, sold out- but Noel just released a limited edition version of it here!) was a perfect fit for this sweet baby page.

I love that it's a sweet page, but with all the shabby and funky elements that make it "me."

He was named after my dad, who passed away earlier this year, so I wanted to have his name and birthdate be the prominent title on the page... just a quiet reminder of new life.

I love being an aunt. My brother and sister in law have the cutest kids and it makes our family complete!

A little vintage love with the West Coast kit!

Don't you just love the colorful Heidi Swapp frames in the West Coast kit? Paired with the blue woodgrain paper and my Instagram prints it creates a great twist on a vintage look! I included some modern trends like the arrows, flair (from the shop), cut title, and the ever popular ink splatters made with the Studio Calico white mist.

Ok, here it is and it makes me wish I was in Maui...right now!
For a something different, try adding in the rub-on words from the Heidi Swapp frames with your embellishments, like I did here. It creates a fun whimsical look.

Did you notice I don't have any journaling? On some pages I include lots of journaling and stories and others I don't journal at all. I felt that the photos, title and rub-ons included in the design said it all...I love Maui, I think it is paradise and I have fun when I'm there!

What about you? Do you feel you have to journal on every single page? Here is my take on it...if you are consistently preserving memories and telling stories, I truly believe it is ok to sometimes let the photos speak for themselves and just play with pretty paper, new products and have fun with the creative process!

Thank you for visiting! Have a fabulous week!

Cassandra Cyr, You've Been Lifted! :)

This week, we've all been lifting some of our fabulous community members- they are so inspiring!

I fell in love with Cassie's gorgeous fall layout using Crate Paper. All the layers and the rich colors are just incredible. Cassie's projects always have lots of details and a great design- and this one was no exception. It was really fun to lift and to be inspired by her style!

I wanted my layout to feel softer and more delicate to fit my photo, so I used the great West Coast kit - the colors and lovely feminine details in it fit the feel of this layout perfectly.

I loved Cassie's big fabric flowers, so I mimicked it on a slightly smaller scale with the fabrips in the kit. I popped a doily behind it to still give the same feel of a large circular element on that side of the page, but it works better with the size and orientation of my photo than a large flower.

I think my favorite thing on Cassie's page was the strip with circular elements- what a fun addition! I will definitely be using that idea again! :) Thanks, Cassie, for your inspiration!

I also have been drawing inspiration lately from the reality show, Project Runway.

They recently had their "unconventional products" challenge, where they created garments out of candy! So fun!

One of the ideas I took away from the show is that they used one shape (in this case, circular and shark shaped candies) to created other shapes on the dress, so I adapted that to my layout and used strips of paper to create large, layered circles.

The color palette was also adapted from the inspiration piece on the show- gorgeous shades of blue.

What's been inspiring YOU lately?

Michelle Rydell.....You've been lifted!

To continue with this week's theme of inspiring NM members, I chose the fabulous Michelle Rydell to inspire me.

The layout that really stood out to me was this one.

I love so many things about Michelle's lo and aside from how fabulous it is, it also helped me step outta my box a lil bit on the way that I scrap....which I loved and found easier than I thought it would be.

And here's my lo that I created using the FABULOUS West Coast Kit.

I just love those lil Heidi Swapp polaroids.

Thanks again Michelle for the inspo.  I have a feeling you'll be inspiring me again in the future :)
