check the message boards for new "mini challenges" that the design team will be doing! Here's my take on the one from last week... "scrap your man". A few years ago, I grabbed a few shots of my hubby hard at work designing blueprints. It's fun to showcase them in a layout, since I definitely don't scrap my hubby enough...

just be
There are moments in life when we have to just let go of our fears and insecurities and just be who we're meant to be. The last few months have been filled with that for me. And everything has almost come together...
So I just wanted to encourage you today. If you're thinking about it, take the leap. Whatever it is for you.

birth day
Ironically enough, when I started thinking back to my birthday this past year, I remembered that it was a little bit disappointing. No dinner out, nothing special. NOT my hubby's fault. It had to do with everything going on at the time.
Thankfully, I did make an effort to have fun when we celebrated later!
Check out the latest challenge up on the challenge blog! It's all about birthdays!

timeless
Part of what kept us so busy earlier this year, was a wedding in the family that we were really involved in!! It really was a lot of fun and a beautiful thing to see as the two of them came together... I snuck this photo as the photographer was snapping away - my husband's brother happened to look over just at that moment, and you could tell they were both really, really happy. :)
Hope you're having a wonderful Friday!

a snapshot
One of the biggest reasons I love putting together a layout like this every once in a while is that it gives such a little snapshot of my life! Of course, some things stay the same {like family, my hubby, etc.}, but lots of things change. I might acquire new loves, or be focusing on something different.
So here are my current loves: top left to right: the beach, our boys, yummy food. Middle left to right: cute shoes, US, photography. Bottom left to right: fantasy fiction, making things, homemade sweets.
And if you haven't had a chance to check out the Mary Ellen kit yet, it's a new fave of mine! It's filled to bursting with lots of great goodies!

cute shoes
Every girl loves a cute pair of shoes, right? I recently discovered the best place to find cute ones for a good price near my home, so I've treated myself a bit more often!
I decided to take a few pics of my favorite pair and make a simple layout. It'll be fun to look back on them one day!

learning to dance in the rain
One of the things I really love about pinterest is all the great, great quotes that I see people pin. It's a perfect way to grab unique saying for cards and layouts!
This is also the card I put together for the stamping challenge going on right now! I used the awesome Jenni Bowlin stamp that's included in the Jump and Jive kit. Instead of using a colored ink, I chose to stamp with a watermark ink, that just left a faint marking barely enough for me to follow. That allowed the great patterned paper I stamped on to be the real highlight of the card.

a little instax love
Over on the forums, the girls have been chatting about this fun camera. I chimed in that I have one and love it. One thing I hadn't anticipated was that our little guy would fall in love with it, too!!

planning a photoshoot
I'm in the process of planning an official photoshoot. It's got me excited, and happy. And I'm not sure where that's going to lead, but I think I'll figure it out as I go...

a gentle reminder
These days my life is filled with the silliness {and fighting} of our two boys. It's really hard some days to not get frustrated with it. I put this together as a gentle reminder to myself. I think I'll set it out where I can see it throughout the day for a while!

trying not to get lost
I'm sure you all can relate - whether you're a mommy that works outside the home, or takes care of littles every day - sometimes you get bogged down a bit with the domestic routine! I really try to cultivate other interests, make sure I set aside time for "me", and if it gets rough one day - pack up and hit the beach with the boys!

a few tips on card making
With our recent card challenge over on the blog, we got a few questions on card making... It was fun to think about the process a little bit and come up with a few tips!
Choose a standard size. Some of the best I've found to work with are 5x7, 4x6, 6x6. {remember when cutting that you'll be folding your paper over, so start with one end twice what you need. For example, cut a 10x7 piece of paper to create a 5x7 card. 8x6 makes a 4x6 card, and 12x6 makes a 6x6 card. An 8.5x11 sheet folded makes a "standard greeting card" size.
Buy envelopes in bulk at the office supply store. You can purchase any of the listed sizes, or just grab a box of the greeting card size to fit just about anything that you make. Just remember if you add any bulky embellishments, the card may need to be hand sorted, or require extra postage.
Think of your card as a mini layout - but without the pressure. I always feel a little pressure when creating a layout. At the very least, I'm trying to match a product to a photo, and make things fit in with the story I'm trying to tell. With a card, nothing. I'm just trying to brighten a friend's day - which doesn't come with any pressure, just fun!
Here are the cards I made:
I hope these help you give cardmaking a try!

un-slumping the creative slump
I shared a few thoughts on my blog the other day regarding being in a creative slump. I thought I might share them here as well, in hopes that it might help anyone who's feeling the creative blues...
So, I took a few
But then I find that I'm missing out.
I'm missing that feeling of accomplishment that I get when I create something that I love. That rush of inspiration that makes you want to toss whatever you're doing aside to make something lovely. Creativity make me complete as a person - without it, something's just missing.
So today I wanted to take just a moment to share a few tips for things that I do when I find myself in the creative lurch. The dumps. A slump. Because un-slumping yourself is an important part of life, and the creative process.
Clean up your space. I say that as I sit surrounded by boxes of unsorted supplies. But I'm speaking from experience. Not everyone is like that - but most people find it hard to work when they can't clear a space on their desk or table, and when they have to keep searching for what they're really looking for. It kills the process. The flow of the thing is gone. I try to take a few moments for clean up and organizing each time I create, and then purge out extra supplies every few months.
Don't overload on "inspiration." In the modern age that we live in, we have websites devoted to cataloging things that catch our eye {yes, I LOVE pinterest}, galleries overflowing with the creativity of others, and even phone apps that are all waiting to give us inspiration. But sometimes that's not always a good thing. Learn to set yourself limits on how much time you spend with these things. I know you've experienced that "I have so many ideas, where do I start!!" feeling that can sometimes become paralyzing. Forget it. Pick one or two ideas and make them your own. Otherwise you'll end up flipping channels on the tv.
Sometimes you just do it. No, don't force it. I mean this in a different way. Gather some supplies that you find inspiring. Don't set yourself a time limit, but set a direction. Relax. I discovered this one for the first time last night. I just started working on something. And you know what? I remembered. I remembered how relaxing creativity is to me. And how much I love it. And how good I feel when I finish something. This one is still in progress, but what can I say?
I think I re-discovered the joy that creativity gives me. And that's what it's about.

bokeh my heart
I had so much fun playing with my camera just a little bit when I was putting away the Christmas stuff.. If you've never heard of the term "bokeh", plug it in on flickr and you'll see some really lovely stuff. It's essentially that gorgeous background blur that you get with a shallow depth of focus in your photos. Some of the images you pull up may even have shaped bokeh like what I have pictured! All the little hearts in the photos are just a pile of Christmas lights photographed out of focus, with a heart shaped bokeh filter over my lens...
This was my take on the sketch challenge that's up right now! More deliciousness from the Truly Scrumptious kit... ^_^

love notes
My husband is definitely not the sentimental type... or is he? :) Over the years, he's kept every card or note that I ever wrote/made for him. He doesn't really talk about it, but I think they mean a lot to him.
all supplies are from the yummy Truly Scrumptious kit! Have a lovely Friday!

A Gentle Reminder
Lately, I've been thinking about things. I've done something the last few months that I try to be very careful not to do... Get so caught up in doing things for others, that outside of my work, I don't really have down time for myself. Ouch. I thought I had already learned this lesson?! I guess sometimes we just need gentle reminders...
