Thrifty Tips

We had such a great time at our Swing Into Spring Crop over the weekend! Thank you to all of you who played along with our challenges and games! And remember you have until Tuesday night to upload and link your pages on the appropriate threads to be eligible for all the great prizes. :D

I wanted to share a couple of Thrifty Tips with you today. The first one involves the page I created for the crop. When you just can't find the right accent to fill that empty spot on your page . . . instead of running to the scrap store, try using some clipart or an image from the internet.

On this page, I used the Ledger Clouds (dowloaded from MelStampz) and a Betsy McCall Paper Doll found on the internet .

Page created with the Noel Mignon Core Curriculum kit. The buttons and My Mind's Eye chipboard letters are from my stash.

My next tip involves letter stickers. Can't find the perfect color to match your page? Try coloring in a light colored alphabet sticker with a marker. Here I colored the letter stickers black . . . but I could've easily colored them any other color to suit my tastes.

Papers, Borderline Stickers, Flipnotes, Letter Stickers and Tape are by Pink Paislee. Crystal Accents by Zva Creative.

Don't forget to shop your stash. Make the supplies you already own work for the project you are creating.

Happy Scrapping!

Adore and Glee Challenge

Happy Monday to our Scrappy Friends! I have a couple pages to share with you today.

On this first page I used the Object of My Affection kit. I was going for a shabby, serene feeling to match this beach photo of my husband and daughter.

Adore by Jana Eubank

The Fancy Pants floral paper was my jumping off point for this page. I created my own page accents using clear packaging and my Cuttlebug Textile Hearts combo die/embossing folder and Frills Borders embossing folder.

I gave the clear accents a whitewash with some acrylic paint and then used Tattered Rose Distress Stickles from the kit on top for a sandy effect. :)

The chipboard hearts are painted with white acrylic paint, a wash of Shimmerz Pink Pearlz, and more Tattered Rose Distress Stickles. I added the Stickles to the Making Memories heart accent, as well, so that everything would coordinate.

This second page was the one I completed for the GLEE CHALLENGE that went up today on the Noel Mignon Challenge blog. Even if you don't watch the show, Glee, you can play along with the fun requirements. Head on over to see what the other design team members created. You are sure to be inspired!

Glee by Jana Eubank

I used the Sassafras Lass cards from the Paper Doll kit mixed with papers and other embellishments from the Core Curriculum kit.

My journaling reads:

"I was an interesting person in High School. I was friends with every one, but didn't quite fit into a specific group. I was actually proud of that. My best friends were my sister and Clark & Adrian. I just wanted High School to be over so I could move on! If I could give my young self advice, I would tell myself to be more confident, get involved and take the chances that you wanted to. See you next time!

When I Was 20

A new challenge will be popping up on the Noel Mignon Challenge blog on Monday: the College Challenge. Here is my take on it using the Core Curriculum kit.

I didn't have a lot of pictures here in my home from my college days (most of them are at my mom's house), but I did come across a few snapshots my sister took of me on a winter hike during this time in my life. I put them together here on this page and then wrote down a few thoughts and feelings from my college days . . . what I was doing, the frustrations I was having with dating, and also my optimism towards the future that lay ahead of me. :) It felt great to get these memories down on paper.

Hope you'll come on over and play along with us!

Core Curriculum Pages

I have a couple more pages to share with you today using the Core Curriculum kit. :)

List Maker
- I'm a list maker . . . and I've recently discovered that my daughter is too! For the first day of school, my daughter had written out a darling list of things she didn't want to forget and things she needed to do to get ready. I found it sitting in her room after she had left for the day and swiped it to include on this page. Hehehehe! :)

On a recent trip to the dollar store, I was drawn to the wall full of kitchen towels. I decided to grab a few to play with on my pages. Here I used a section of one as a layer on my page, stitching it to hold it in place.

I ran another one through my die cut machine to create these cute layered flowers. I can't wait to make more! :)

Stream - My son and his buddies love to explore the stream next to our home. They love to dig for worms, catch bugs, build bridges and collect rocks. I just love how "down and dirty" they look in these pictures! LOL!

I didn't have the right letters left over on my sticker sheet to spell my title, so I dug through my stash and found some orphaned chipboard letters to fill in the empty spaces. :)

I again used a dollar store kitchen towel to create the star accents on this page. I also used the edge of one as a layer along the bottom of my photo grouping.

Thanks for coming by!

A little "Core" Card

Hello there and Happy Wednesday! I have a quick card to share with you. I used bits and pieces from the Core curriculum kit. The stamps are not in the kit.

I made this a 4x4 card which is my new favorite size. I love how easy it is to work with - you ought to give it a try!

That's all for now! Have a wonderful day!

First Day of First Grade

I decided to use an earthy color scheme on this page of my daughter's first day of first grade. I really love the way the blues, browns, and red play off of each other.

I used the Melissa Frances Die Cut journal blocks as a mask before building my page. I attached them lightly to my page and then misted over them using Rock-a-fella Blue Spritz by Shimmerz. After a few minutes when my page was dry, I doodled around the resulting shape with a black pen for more definition. After building my page, I used these two masked areas as homes for my title and journaling.

As a final touch I added a bit of shine to the paper flowers using Antique Lace Shimmerz paint.

Page created with the Core Curriculum kit along with bits and baubles from past Noel Mignon kits.

Thanks for coming by!

8th Grade

I took these cute pics of my daughter on her first day of 8th grade. She had her new little skort and sweater on! I used Noel's Core Curriculum kit for the entire LO. (Which is sold out!) I adore this kit with these pictures of my girl together!

Have a fabulous weekend!!!

Core Curriculum

Hey there! Just popping in to bring you a couple of things I have made with the Core Curriculum kit (sold out).

First, I made this card. It is a 4x4 card and I used the Jillibean sketch and have a card ready for my daughters teacher that I am sure I will use sometime this year.

And this one - well lately we have been playing at LEAST 1 game a night. This night it was Hi-ho cherry-o - which is a favorite of mine. I finally got smart and started taking pictures. So here is the layout - using the core curriculm kit. I also used it as my example for the awesome Challenge that Noel has going on. If you haven't heard she is giving away a full version of Lightroom (which is amazing) so get on over and put your hat in the ring. All the details are here.

oh and that cherry - I made with my silhouette. I was originally going to put 2 on the layout but I cut them too big - and I could've re-cut them - but nahhh- just went with the flow and worked around it.
Thanks for looking!

Box Tops For Education

I don't know if your school collects them but we sure do. In order to keep them from getting lost or thrown around my kitchen and shuffled around i decided the Core Cirriculum Kit was perfect for these. Michael's had their recipe boxes for .60 so i snagged a few. You see i don't cook often. If it don't come out the can or a box or is frozen than i don't cook it :) so i definitly didn't need a recipe box for what it was intended for :)

The next thing is a nice little package topper for the teacher. A couple times a year i send little "happy's" with the kids and i thought this would be a great little gift topper. I took stiff felt for my base and then started building up from there.

Thanks for looking. See you next week

1976

This is me in kindergarten. 33 years ago. Time really needs to slow down just a bit! I have always loved school.......that is probably why I went into teaching. I can still remember the little cubbies we had, the LO of the classroom, my teacher. When I found this picture, I knew I wanted to scrap it using Noel's Core Curriculum kit. (It is sold out, but don't worry because her newest kit, 31st, is coming out soon, and Noel is taking preorders!!!) I loved the variety of colors in this kit......not just primary. I pulled out all the soft colors in the kit to match my dress. The felt numbers were from my own personal stash.

Have a fabulous Friday and weekend!!

The "real" First Day

So the first day came and went and we both survived. I had to get these photos scrapped as soon as possible! So of course I used the "Core Curriculum" kit. The only thing added was a few embellishments and the thickers.

You can probably see the pencil that is there -- She got that on Kinder meet the teacher day -- and I took it --- shhhhhhhh....she will thank me later (I hope). And it is a little heavy so I needed to add a nit more adhesive to make it straight - and it is now - LOL!

And the tree in the middle was just a thought I had in the "tree of knowledge" and of course I made it 3-D!
I hope you all are enjoying this kit --- just wait until Halloween -- awesome!!!

Kindergarten Registration

Well school has officially begun! Although I wish I was that fast of a scrapper I'm not - LOL! This layout was done with a picture I took of Alyson this past Spring when I was registering her for Kinder. She is sitting in front of the school. Sniff..sniff...this day came too fast - but she is ready - that's for sure!

I used the Core Curriculum kit that sold out in one DAY! And I used my own stamps with embossing powder for the title. And as you can see I didn't plan the title out well - but ah well it adds to the layout right? (agree with me please).

I tucked my journaling in the library card pocket - love those! Do libraries still have those? Everywhere I go they are computerized!

Well I can't wait to see what you all created for this challenge.!

School!

Yep! It's time for another challenge! Check out the Noel Mignon Challenge blog today to find out what it is . . . but, I bet you can guess by looking at my page! ;)

I created this page using the new Core Curriculum kit (sorry, sold out) and a few additional buttons from my stash. We have a tradition to take our first day photos on our front porch. I make a page of each kid for their school album of just them, and then I like to make a page with all of the kids together for our family album. My younger daughter Maryn was quite the poser this day! LOL! Check her out! Strutting her 1st-grade-stuff! LOL! Fun times! Fun times!!!

I created this next page using a sketch from the Triple the Sketch blog. This items on this page are a combination of the Five Foot Twoand Eyes of Blue kits (a few still available).

I coated the chipboard shapes with the white crackle paint and highlighted the texture with Hi-Ho Silver Blingz by Shimmerz (from my stash). I tell ya! That crackle paint is addicting! What a fun way to add texture to a page!

Well, I hope you had a beautiful end to your summer and are getting ready to enjoy the changing seasons. I know I am! See you next time!

School Kicks

Good Morning Girls

This week I received my new Core Curriculum Kit and could not wait to dive into it.
I sat down and printed out the pics from the kids 1st day of school and more importantly Melana's first day of kindergarten.

i don't know about your kids but mine are all about the shoes...i felt that if it was important to them then i should scrap it. So i did.
The next layout will be a story about Melana's shoes and the hell i went through to get them...ahhhh the joys of raising a fashionista who has to have the latest and greatest when it hits the market...grrrr....

everything used on this is from the kit..be sure to check out the new challenge that goes up tomorrow on challenge blog.
Thanks for looking, see you next week.
