playing with shaped papers

Shaped papers are so much fun to play with. And it seems like just about every company is making them these days. Sometimes they can seem a bit challenging on what to do with them. Then again, sometimes they're so pretty you want to 'save' them for the perfect layout! C'mon, I can't be the only one that does that! 

So I thought I'd share a few different ideas on using those fun shaped papers. 
As a background

 Office Party kit (alphas from Seaside Cottage kit)

Of course, the easiest way to use those papers is by using as your background paper on your layout. I loved the red in this My Mind's Eye paper and it picked up the red in my son's shirt.

Using half of the page

Sometimes it's fun to cut your shaped paper in half on your layout. In this one I used it on the bottom half and it 'grounds' all of my embellishments & photos on the page. And even better...you have the other half for another layout!

By the way, quick tip I did with my photos. I knew I wanted 2 for this layout because it just looked better but only had one. My answer - print one in color and one in black and white. Problem solved!
Take the middle out

For this layout I cut the middle out of the shaped paper and put the bottom & top half back together. This is also fun to do on a 2 page layout, splitting the halves between the 2 pages in your layout.

Scraplifting Jill Cornell

I knew as soon as I saw this page by message board member Jill Cornell (using the Seaside Cottage kit) that I MUST MUST MUST scraplift it!

It is so beautiful- the design and the meaning behind the page.

I wanted to be able to use some sweet pictures that would do the design justice, and when I caught our sweet baby girl playing with her chubby legs next to her daddy on Sunday afternoon, I knew I had to use those pics!

(I used mostly products from the Sonoma County kit, along with a touch or two from the Seaside Cottage kit.)

I also have a layout to share for our latest challenge- about the origins of our names! I used the Playdate kit to make this one, with a picture that I had from when I was a little girl as the background.

Last week I showed you a Disneyland page I created using the Noel Mignon Sonoma County kit (sold out). This week I have another one for you. These are two of my daughter's riding the Sleeping Beauty Carousel in the middle of Fantasy Land.

My page is based on a sketch by Shelly (scrpbk1) from the Noel Mignon Message Board. We played a message board game where we created and swapped sketches with our partner. (Check out what everyone else created HERE . . . AMAZING!!!) I turned Shelly's sketch on it's side and pulled the elements together in a cluster to make it work with my two vertical photos.

I also wanted to share with you this Easter page I created using the Seaside Cottage kit (sold out). It was a perfect choice to scrap this picture of my daughter on Easter morning last year.



The layer behind my photo was created using the Script Texture embossing folder by Cuttlebug/ProvoCraft. Before placing my cream cardstock into the folder to emboss it I spritzed the folder with Treasured Hymn Spritz, Copper Penny Vibez, Hot Fudge Vibez, and a bit of Licorice Spritz (Available in the Noel Mignon store ). I love how the colors mixed and settled into the recessed parts of the pattern emphasizing the texture.

I then added a splash of pink at the top by placing a butterfly punch on the cardstock as a mask and then misted over the corner with Bed of Roses Spritz by Shimmerz Paints . It was just enough pink to help the cardstock tie in with the rest of the page. :)



I stamped the sentiment from the My Cute Stamps "Jelly Beans" set onto a tag. I used a stamping marker to color portions of the saying one at a time, so I could space the quote out on my tag to make it fit. I stamped the bunny, carrot and easter egg onto cream patterned paper and then used Shimmerz Paints lightly on the portions of the image that I wanted a little color.



The pearl accents on the banner, the pearl curly line beneath the rabbit, and the pink icy blossom are all by Zva Creative (from my stash). They are the perfect dimensional details that add a bit of Easter elegance to this page. :)

A through Z

Another one using the seaside cottage kit...let me tell you girls...i don't know about you but i have sure got alot of mileage out of this kit and don't feel i have made a dent in it....



for the Melissa Frances embellishments I used some regular stickles and some distress stickles along with the Shimmerz paint pot that came in the Paper Doll Kit.
on the corner i used some liquid pearls for the dots (love this stuff too) for the gold corners i used the perfect pearls with the perfect medium. Note: don't rub your medium pad on your corners like it did...it will eat it up in a minute...oh well live and learn..then i dusted some of the gold perfect pearls on it and loved how it turned out.


I wanted the leaves to stand out a bit more so i just traces them with a fine tipped black pen.

A Little Bit of This....A Little Bit of That!

Today's LO has everything but the kitchen sink in it! I created this LO of my daughter and her special dolly using bits and pieces of the Object of my Affection and Seaside Cottage kits. I also threw in some vintage music paper, some Cuttlebugged scraps, Glimmer Mist, paint.....and lots of glitter! I based my LO on THIS sketch by Sketch Inspirations. Family & Sugary-Sweet Color Scheme

I have been holding onto this picture for a really long time. I didn't want to scrap it until I found papers that did these sweet little subjects justice(my kids and their cousins).

That was until I started playing with the Seaside Cottage kit! The soft, sugary colors were perfect! Almost reminds me of a visit to the ice cream shoppe. :)

Fairy Godmother

Good Morning Girls. Today i have a layout using the Seaside Cottage kit.
I came across this picture i forgot to scrap when i did some disney pages a few years ago so i thought this kit was perfect. Look how little my baby looks...GAH!!

anyway i traced the shaped paper on the kraft cardstock and cut it out, used pop dots behind it to make it raised then went from there. I know it is hard to see but i also used some perfect pearls and stamped a crown on my clear button down and the bottom. i also used some of the shimmerz spritz to spray my doilie with for added shine. I used my embossing gun to dry it quickly. that too was hard to photograph.

This layout was using the majority of the Seaside Cottage Kit as well with a few things from previous kits that Noel has put together. I cannot tell you how in love i am with the shimmerz stuff. I used some to spritz to spray the lace fabric that came in the kit to change it from white to a blue color...addicted i tell ya...
This layout is for the current challenge.
