Work through those kits!

Well, good morning, friends! In anticipation of all the lovely new product Noel is busy selecting to put in our upcoming kits, I decided to spend a little time with an older kit "Playdate" from last May. This kit was so bright and fun that I paired a photo of my girls at the park last summer with the yummy green, red and purple.

For the title, I used alphabets from my stash by October Afternoon, American Crafts and Rusty Pickle. 

Here I layered Jillibean Soup patterned paper, a Hambly transparency, Sassafras heart sticker, October Afternoon text sticker and Kaisercraft rhinestone.

And this little ensemble is one of the circle vintage playing cards in the kit, a Sassafras flower sticker, Jillibean Soup patterned paper circle I punched and an American Crafts brad.

I want some candy!

Hey everyone! I have a quick layout to share today using Sketch #60 from Inspired Blueprints. I love sketches. The hardest part is done for you...trying to figure out the design of your layout! I pulled out some remnants of an older Noel kit (Playdate) because I wanted some bright, fun papers to go with my photo.

Now I didn't have a 6x8 photo because I was out of printer paper and too lazy to have them printed somewhere else. So, I used background paper for the 6x8 photo portion of the sketch and used a 4x6 photo. That's the great thing about sketches - it gives you a baseline of where to start and then you can tweak it to fit your own tastes & photos you have!

I also added some white paint around the edge of the photo and instead of using the circle in the background like the sketch I added that fun hearts transparency. I think it looks better square anyway.

The Story of Today

There's a 'Time Capsule' challenge over at the challenge blog to scrap about life today. So I thought it'd be fun to do a little mini-album about some current prices for things where I live, such as gasoline, milk, movie tickets, etc. Won't that be fun to look at in 20 yrs?? I sure think so!!

So I grabbed a Jenni Bowlin mini book and used the goodies from the Playdate kit to create my album. I kept things very simple. Just a cute little book :) I used a couple Maya Road mists to add some color to the OA card, then added some ribbon, JB & OA stickers and a little jewel for the flower. Then I took the rings off the book and added some twine to hold it together.

Inside I kept things very simple. Each page has a photo to go along with the journaling.

 

 

Inspired by Patterned Paper

Today there is a brand new challenge up on the Noel Mignon Challenge Blog . The Double Trouble Challenge! The challenge is to use only ONE sheet of double-sided patterned paper. You can use anything else, but only one sheet of the patterned paper.

YIKES! Until this challenge I didn't realize how much I LOVE and depend on using patterned paper in my designs. My solution? To create my own patterned paper on plain cardstock using stamps. (Stamps by PaperTrey Ink)



The inspiration for my design actually came from the sheet of patterned paper I chose: Jillibean Soup "Old World Cabbage Stew" Brown Rice Paper from the Playdate kit. I took my color scheme straight from the paper: red, golden yellow, green, brown, and cream.



The patterned paper design reminds me of a county fair. It made me think of fruit pies lined up in a row on a calico print table cloth. :) The zig-zag circle came from the idea of the winning pie receiving a blue ribbon. :)

Greetings from Disney World

yep yep!!!! We are on our second day at Disney and right now I am at MGM Studios in Disney watching the Star Wars parade and tribute they have going on. Melana is such a Star Wars fan so I was so excited that this was happening right now. We are hoping to get a few autographs for her :) In particular Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.


This was taken in 2006 when Melana was 2 1/2 and she just couldn't believe her eyes...all she could do was stare at her. :) This year I didn't tell them we were going. So you can imagine the excitement on her face when we drove up.

Anyway here is a quick little idea for you. Instead of buying postcards from the store how about making them yourself.

I don't know about your family but mine love to see my layouts so I decided that I would print a picture of a layout on cardstock(or photo paper) in 4x6 size and adhere it to another piece of cardstock with the traditional post card backing.

If you are going to print on photo paper and you have a laminating machine
i would do your postcard and your writing and then laminate it. I did mine on cardstock just because I am cheap and didn't want to waste what few sheets of photo paper I have left. :)

Before I go I just want to say that I have enjoyed the last few years on this team.
After looooooooooong and hard consideration I decided not to reapply because of personal reasons. I have been having some issues with my 6 year old and I need to get her back on the right track. Exhausting I tell ya.

I will still see ya'll on the boards when I get back on June 7th!

2 Beauty's

I figured I better go ahead and get most (or at least try to get most) of my Disney pics scrapped that were left before we went back. I would hate to be 2 trips behind :)
I ran across this one when i was searching and it cracked me up because we were on day 3 there and this particular day were we eating lunch at Cinderella's Castle. She still could not get over that she was able to meet all the princesses.

Do you have any older photos from past vacations that still need to be scrapped?

two layouts to share

hey guys! stephanie howell here. :)
hope you are having a fabulous, scrappy tuesday!
i have two layouts to share today.
i'm a fairly simple, easy to lift scrapper...no complicated techniques or ideas for the most part.
because of that , most of my layouts don't require explanation. hmmm, maybe i'm a no frills scrapper? i like that and it suits me right now. :)

so anyway, here you go...gosh, i love the colors in this kit.
made me want to scrap so many fresh, happy memories.



first up is an 8.5x11 layout i did. it's on white cardstock, sorry it blends into the blog background!!

i peeled the top layer off of the chipboard alphas to give them a kraft look...this suited my layout better than red did. the other thing i did was cut one of the KI Memories border stickers in half down the center.

here's my second layout, the colors against the kraft are so delicious!

Playdate Color Scheme

I love looking at the 100 Layer Cake Blog for color inspiration among many other things. If you haven't bookmarked this blog I would highly recommend it.

If you noticed I wanted a layer effect to the scallop border at the top of my pic so what i did was take my ole trusty sharpie and draw the lines inside the edge a bit and then draw the scallop on the outside of the border and it gives that illusion there are to of them that I layered when in fact it is only one...love that. see if you don't have two of something then you just do it the "thrifty" way ;)

Ad Challenge

Playdate Color Inspiration

I love the simple, happy colors that the (sold out!) Playdate kit has, and when I saw this colorboard, I knew immediately that inspiration for a layout was born!
