Ad Challenge!

Last month we were challenged to use this ad/colorboard in a challenge and I decided to take it a step further and use it for my ad challenge today!
There is so much to gather from this colorboard... first off the (well duh) beautiful color scheme and then I just love the way it's arranged and I chose to follow both the color scheme and arrangement for my layout below!

Digi-to-Paper Inspiration

A Little Bit of This....A Little Bit of That!

Today's LO has everything but the kitchen sink in it! I created this LO of my daughter and her special dolly using bits and pieces of the Object of my Affection and Seaside Cottage kits. I also threw in some vintage music paper, some Cuttlebugged scraps, Glimmer Mist, paint.....and lots of glitter! I based my LO on THIS sketch by Sketch Inspirations. Quick Tip for Defining a Lengthy Journaling Area

I created this layout (with the "Object of My Affection" kit + alphas from the "Seaside Cottage" kit) for the Lean On Me Challenge. I knew when I was making it that I would need a longer area for journaling, but I didn't want anything that interfered with the soft colors of my design.

"Notebook paper?" I thought. "Nah."

"Paint?" I mused. "Meh. Don't feel like messing with washing up."

"Ooooh! Masking tape! Dimension, texture, soft color, easing to apply- perfect!"


(Don't worry. I don't talk to myself like that. Much. I promise. hee hee!)

Hey there Happy Friday!  I have something fun to share today!  When I was scrapping the following photos I decided to go with an 'old school' technique, cutting photos into shapes.  I know you have some old pages like that right?  I do - ")  I decided to give it a try again but with an updated look

   I used the 'Object of my Affection' kit.  When I was putting this together I decided to cut the close up photos into shapes to go with the theme.  I drew a template out of a piece of scrap cardstock and then traced it on all the photos.  That's all!  I also used pop squares for some of them.  So easy and I think it is an updated look for those shaped photos - right?

Tip & Technique: Origami Flowers

I have pretty much been a paper nerd my entire life. :) My parents own a copy & print shop which meant paper & ink were regular terms at my house growing up. One year my parents gave me a set of Origami Books for my birthday.



While cleaning out a cupboard last week, I came across them and remembered how much fun they were. I thumbed through the pages again and to my delight I found instructions on making an origami flower. As a scrapbooker, I KNEW I had to try it right away. Hehehehe!

I used the Brand New SEASIDE COTTAGE kit (Just TWO left!!!) for this page. Seriously!! What a fun kit! I created the flowers from the lighter weight 7 Gypsies paper. It's fun to have the two-different patterns show. :) I used my pinking shears to cut two circles from the pink seersucker fabric and the Jenni Bowlin Vintage-Style Buttons as flower centers. Swoon!!!




I used the doilie from the kit as a mask and then misted my background paper with Shimmerz Bed of Roses Spritz and Hot Fudge Vibez. I also used Pixie Dust Blingz by Shimmerz Paints on the title letters to make them sparkle. :)



A little backstory about the title on this page. As most parents do, I have little nicknames for my kids. Not only individually, but in groups. I call my two older children "The Olders" . . . "Hey, Olders, go and get your homework done!" And my two little ones "The Girls" or "The Littles." I also have a name for my youngest and oldest . . . they are "My Bookends" because they come first and last. :)

I snapped a picture of these two in the car one day while we were on vacation and this page was born. :)

I also wanted to share this page with you that I created for the current Noel Mignon "Lovely Color" Challenge that went up today on the challenge blog .

For this page I used the Object of My Affection kit, a few Heidi Swapp felt butterflies, and paints and mists from Shimmerz Paints.



First, I handcut my clouds from white cardstock and embossed them using my Cuttlebug. I used the Swiss Dots and Houndstooth folders. When I held my clouds up to my page they were too bright against the other off-white elements of my page. I used Treasured Hymn Spritz by Shimmerz Paints to tone them down and give them an antinque feeling.




Next, I added Morning Mist Pearlz by Shimmerz Paints along the edges of the clouds. I like how it made them feel more dimensional. The final touch was a coat of Pixie Dust Blingz by Shimmerz Paints . Now my clouds are sparkly and magical! :D I wish I could take pictures to do them justice! They are so sparkly and FUN!!! The felt layered butterflies are also sparkling with a coat of the Pixie Dust Blingz . . . what a versatile paint!



To create the scalloped edge of the red patterned paper I used the Prima packaging from the kit as a template.

Title Tip

When I went to do my title I realized I didn't have enough letters to spell out 'Valentine'. Instead I decided to abbreviate the word and use a symbol. This is also a great way to shorten a title to fit a space.



Replacing letters with objects and abbreviating titles are fun ways to add interest to your pages.

This is just one way to spice up your page, the design team each month will give you different ideas and fun ways to add interest to your projects!!

A Sketch & Valentine's Cards....

Well happy hump day to everyone! It is snowing like crazy here in Chicago and I am keeping my fingers crossed for a snow day! I could use a day to lounge in my jammies and scrap! (Probably wishful thinking........but hey, a girl can dream right? )

I have a sketch for you today. As a matter of fact, it is my very first sketch! So be kind! I know for me, when I need a bit of a boost, sketches are the perfect solution! Most of the time I deviate.....but it is a great jump start! So here it is........

Here is my completed LO, using the sketch, of my sweet nephew and niece. I used many scraps I had laying around. Anything on my desk becomes fair game for layouts! : ) I have lots of misc. vintage things.....ticket stubs, matchbooks, music paper, book paper......you get the idea. They sit in bowls just waitin' to be used!

I also have a couple of cards I created using Noel's Object of My Affection kit. : )

OK....ignore the JustRite tag.....it is sooooooo not a JR stamp. I was using my teeny 10 inch notebook to edit this, when my regular computer had a virus......apparently I screwed the "tag" up!

I added lots of glitter to this Valentine card!!!

Whew! At least this card was edited and marked correctly!!!

Valentine's Decor

First off- aren't our new signatures that Jana made so super cute?! Gosh I love 'em!

I've been trying to make a few "pretties" for our house for V-Day coming up.

I used my Silhouette machine to cut out these hearts in different sizes, and then embellished them. I added them to strips of tulle & ribbon to make a pretty decoration for our bedroom door.

I also added a few Dollar Tree glittery snowflake ornaments from Christmas time.
(All made from the Object of my Affection kit!)

I also bought one of those cute little mailboxes from the Target Dollar Spot and embellished it. I know, it's been done a million times- it still doesn't mean that they aren't cute! ;)

I layered a Pink Paislee press-on rub-on on top of one of the little round journaling spots in the kit. I love how you can see the design on the journaling spot come through the sheer design of the rub on.

One final thing: I wanted to share with y'all my ribbon & trim storage!

It's not anything spectacular AT ALL, but it works for me.

I mounted a tiny curtain rod onto tiny brackets onto the wall, added clips, and then keep all my ribbon sorted by color in baggies, attached to each clip.

One thing you need to note: I keep my scrap stash pretty cleaned out. I like to sort through & purge sometimes as frequently as once a month. I try to only keep around the stuff that I really, really like. Hence- not a ton of ribbon.

I keep rolls of other stuff on the rod too. Also, random little crafts that my kids make may or may not get clipped up there. That's just how we roll. ;)

(By the way, my kids told me that little paper doll is a mommy. Wanna guess why? LOL)


Random scraps of ribbon go in this big jar. Also known as me being too lazy to mess with them.
