Card Sketch Part Two

As promised today I am back revisiting last weeks card sketch!
I am getting into making post cards now that I can send off. Instead
of reading them and then tossing them into the trash with hand-
made post cards you can display them as mini pieces of art!



I used bits and pieces again of what I had already cut into
with the lovely Sweet Sue Kit along with some of its embellishments.
There is also some Prima packaging that I used from the kit as
well.

Fashions by Olivia

My daughter loves to draw and create and loves to make up all sorts of 'businesses' and fun things. I think she's already figured out how she's going to make her first million! hehe Anyway, she wanted a journal to put all of her 'fashion ideas' into so she could have her own fashion journal. So I came up with this:

I found a plain chipboard journal I had in my stash and set out to decorate it with some fun goodies from the Sweet Sue kit (5 left!). I seriously looove this kit!! See that brown 'shape' sticking out from the Sassafras borders? That's the little strip of My Mind's Eye paper that you cut off. I always save those for when you need to add a little touch of something to project.

I cut the scallop square with my Sizzix and added part of the Prima jewels (just snipped the part off that I wanted to use), added that pretty blue flower, and added the October Afternoon alphas & AC thickers from previous kits.

The pink ribbon from the Seaside Cottage kit (sold out) finished it off. Cause my girl loves pink :) The great thing about this book is that once she's done with this phase of her life, I'll keep it as a little scrapbook of a snapshot of her childhood. And she can look back on this when she's older. So on the inside cover I added just a few leftover Sassafras borders with the 'eight' card & an Elle's Studio journaling card with her age & date.

And now I have to work on Volume 2...because this one is already filled! Here's a peak of the inside:

I AM LAME!

Or, more to the point, my internet is lame!

So, I had this great video to show you all about how the awesomeness that is a Noel Mignon kit, and after about, oh, six hours of trying to get it uploaded, I have finally given up.

Instead, you have these marvelous (gag) stills of some of the pages in progress I have made for my 25 Days of Christmas book. I know, I know, it's only September, but come on! If all the big box stores can do it, why can't I?



In all sincerity, I pulled out my book I made last year (all ten of my 25 days :(-I am lame, remember?) and realized how glad I was to be able to recall all of those great memories, even if I only made it ten days into the book. This just makes me all that much more excited to get the whole thing done this year! I've decided that if I can at least get 25 semi-designed pages together then I'll be in good shape. That way, if I don't have time to be super creative each day I can at least jot down a few lines on one of the pre-made pages and stick it in the book.

I decided to pull from the Office Party kit and the Sweet Sue kit (hurry, only 5 left!) all of the Christmassy items that I could use in this book, and man oh man there are a ton! It's amazing how thorough that woman is at putting these little babies together! I mean, book covers? Check! Plenty of perfect papers? Check! Lots of little ephemera pieces that are just perfect for a mini book? Check and check!!!

So go through your past kits and pull out some left-over stuff and get going! Can't wait to see what you make!

Who Knew?

Who knew that 10 months ago I would lose my best friend in the whole world. Unexpectedly. Suddenly. What doctors took as an earache, turned out to be meningitis. 38 years old. Scrapbooking isn't always about birthday parties and Christmas celebrations.....sometimes it is about the painful things in our lives. Remembering loved ones we've lost. It immortalizes them on a page......forever. I found these pics of Jen with my two children in 2000. I love that they show what kind of free spirit she was. The kind of gal who loved life and would give her very last penny to a stranger. This page brought many tears, but also a big smile to my face just remembering. (Office Party kit was used for this page)

The title comes from the P!nk song, "Who Knew." Listen or read the lyrics and you will understand.

Remember to not just scrap those happy times, but also the sad, the bad, and the ugly. The future generation will appreciate a complete picture of who you are. I want my children to know that I was sad over the loss of their Auntie Jen......and I don't want them to forget her. Ever. Now they won't.

Use Your Scraps

When I went to CHA Summer, I had the good fortune of receiving some paper swatches of the new lines by The Girls' Paperie and October Afternoon. Unfortunately they were small and I had to use them in a creative way. So I decided to cut them in varying sizes and sew them together. Kind of like you would do with a patchwork quilt. You can do the same thing with different scraps of paper you may have lying around after you've devoured your Noel Mignon kits. And without further ado, here is my card...
