Halloween Countdown

This year, I wanted to make each of my kids their very own Halloween Countdown Calendars and this is what I came up with. This idea was adapted from a Christmas countdown that Jensyn made in school one year. The child gets to eat one piece of candy every day until the holiday. FUN! You may have seen this idea before, but for those of you who haven't I will include the instructions here.

For the topper to my countdown calendar I used a page of a chipboard mini-album. I found this one at Michaels' a month or so ago in the dollar section. There was already a hole in the page that I will use for hanging the calendar. I punched an additional hole in the bottom. This is where I will hang the long strand of candy.

I left the base of the chipboard raw and inked the edges with black ink. I then doodled around the edge.

Next I decorated the page using The 31st kit (sold out) as shown. The decorative accents were made by using circle punches and scalloped circle punches. I just punched part of the pattern out of patterned paper.

I created the word "Halloween" and the number tags on my computer using the font called Oh! Photo Shoot found for free on the internet.

Next I cut a 9 foot long piece of cellophane (used for wrapping gift packages) into four narrow strips. I laid out the candy for each day (caramels, Halloween taffy, butterscotch candies, candy pumpkins, and candy corn) and then tied a number tag in between each one.

Finally, hang the strand of candy onto the bottom of your topper. Now your child/grandchild/niece or nephew can cut off one piece of candy each day as they countdown to Halloween.

My kids are loving it! I am thinking I will make another one for each of them for Christmas, too!

Happy Halloween!
