A Sketch for you!

Hello and good morning!  I have a quick sketch to share with you today.  I based it on the latest Noel Mignon challenge which was to not use any pattern paper - I KNOW!  Hard right?  Here is the layout I came up with.

I used a 2009 collage that I have been intending to scrap - I think this was the perfect opportunity - hee!

I'm Thrifty! (Sort of!)

Good morning and happy Sunday to you! I don't know if I am an oddity or if other crafters look at everything and wonder if they could possibly use that item in their scrapbooking......somehow. I can't bear to throw anything away until it's gotten the "Kovack once over!" Take tissue paper for example. I have lots of it......all ready for those gift bags.....but instead of sticking it out the top of a gift bag, it could be used to create butterflies......that are die cut and Glimmer Misted!

.............Or stamped on and cut out to create this pretty flower.

Or how about an ordinary stick from your backyard? How about painting and glittering it so that your little birdie has a place to perch?

How about all of those clothes that your children grow out of? Instead of immediately throwing them in the Goodwill bag, ask yourself, "Self? Would these die cut into pretty butterflies? or possibly flowers?" If the answer is yes.....grab that pair of shorts or old T-shirt and die cut away! Or tear it into strips and make your own ribbons with it! Oh, and see the scrunchy ribbon? That was my tutorial last week using Glimmer Mist and used coffee grounds. I use coffee grounds A LOT to stain my ribbons! I've even used coffee grounds mixed with paint and glue to create "dirt." (If you missed any of those tutorials click on them! : )

For this LO of my niece using the new "Office Party" kit, I used gauze from my stash. Yep....gauze. Even medical supplies are not safe in my hot little hands! LOL! I Glimmer Misted it and glued it down. I added some tiny rocks/shells to emulate the lake.

Some other things I stash are doilies from hotel rooms. (I slip them into my purse alllll the time!). Twill from my daughter's shorts that no longer fit. Jean pockets cut away from the rest of the jeans to make a cute pocket for your journaling and such. Aluminum foil die cut for interesting shapes or title. I used bubble wrap once to create waves for a watery LO I did years ago.

So before you throw anything away be sure to look at it with your crafty eyes! You might surprise yourself with what you come up with! And sometimes those thrifty finds are the most interesting!

Ad Challenge: Office Party!

I love to look through magazines for scrapbooking inspiration and this ad for Bose radios in a recent issue of Ladies' Home Journal caught my eye. I liked the iPod playlist in the background with the radio and iPod in the front. 

I tore out the ad and used it as the inspiration for this layout of my husband with our daughters. When the girls were really young and crying a lot, the one thing that would bring "instant calm" to our lives was for them to sit outside in the glider with daddy. I used the Pink Paislee and Basic Grey patterned paper to create a circle (the playlist in the ad) to ground two of my photos. The block of light blue in the ad became another photo (a shot of our deck and back of the house to add context to the other photos). 

Here's a close-up of my title and the Lily Bee canvas flower that I layered with Basic Grey stickers. 

I inked the Making Memories alphabet for extra dimension and machine stitched across the bottom to ground them to the layout. 

Finally, I added a little more machine stitching for added visual interest.

PHOTO TIP: No matter how hard I tried, I just could not get a good picture of the cave formations during our tour of Lehman Caves at Great Basin National Park. Soooo, my tip of the day?! Grab a few beautiful postcards instead! They are inexpensive and capture those scenic vacation spots perfectly!

Finally, I wanted to share a quick tip with you on how to ink smaller letter stickers or even smaller accents.

If you've ever tried to ink letter stickers with an ink pad or dauber, you know that it can be quite difficult and very frustrating.

Here is what I do. I stick the letter to a scrap piece of paper and trace around them with a permanent marker.



Peel up the letters and add them to your page. You will now have letters that have the edges defined by ink . . . even the middles of the vowels! Awesome! :D

Weathered Chipboard

Tomorrow is the big day that we all have been waiting for....the reveal of the "Office Party" kit. Let me tell you. It is A-W-E-S-O-M-E! I wanted to give you a quick little tip on how to use the chipboard item that is in this kit. You can see a little sneak of it here.



I did a few things to the chipboard piece to give it a worn and distressed look. First I painted a thick coat of crackle paint. Don't worry about covering each minute section of the chipboard. It actually adds to the worn look if you miss a few spots. After the crackle paint dried, I sprayed a bit of Maya Mist in Buttermilk to tone down the white crackle paint. Once the mist was dry, I lightly sanded the edges of the chipboard to complete my worn look.

Scraplift Challenge

Hi there again everyone!!! Today I bring some wonderful
inspiration by Deanna aka DMisner! I LOVE her fresh clean
style and knew that she would be the first on my list to
scraplift. Here is one of her fantastic pages I decided to
lift.

I chose this particular page because of the wonderful design
and placement of everything. The photo is absolutely perfect
as well.

Here is my page! I twisted it a little to add my own touch

but totally kept the design concept in tact. This was such

a fun page to do and it came together quite quickly. Every-

thing clicked with this one thanks to you Deanna! LOL!
